Expectations Editorial

For this project, we had to find someone inspirational and create an editorial about them. This included writing questions, interviewing the person, writing the article, photographing them, and designing the editorial. I chose Naomi Schnider. She is currently the only girl in her program, and chose the program despite skepticism from many. She is shattering everyone’s expectations and pursuing the career she wants.

To start this project I first planned what questions to ask and set up the interview/photography session. In order to capture an authentic day in her life we had two shoots. The first I shadowed her while she was working at school. For the second I met her at her house later that day. For this shoot, I had brought my broken glass screen protector to get a shot of her through the cracked glass.

After I got all of the content for the editorial I started writing the article and editing photos in Photoshop. Then I moved to InDesign to establish the rough layout for the editorial. After creating that I decided I wanted the cracks to be a larger part of the design. So I took the cracked image out of the design and brought it back into Photoshop. There I cut the cracks out of the image so that they could be placed over the whole article. This project pushed me to strengthen my writing, professionalism, photography and layout skills. It taught me the true satisfaction of creating every part of a project.
