Johnny Depp is one of the best examples of deep features and intense eyes. The man is known for acting with his eyes and this is the very reason I chose to paint him in this medium. 

The process of this oil wash was one I had never done before. First, I placed the base wash and created the lights by removing paint with mineral spirits. For the darks, I created two shades so I could have smooth transitions as well as very intense shadows. Lastly, to bring it into the digital world I scanned it in and brought it into Photoshop. There I simply bumped up the saturation to resemble the original more closely. 

This project was a good refresher in technical skills and a reminder to be loose in my work.
